Andrew Hood

“Whether I’m painting places recently visited or from fleeting memories…I always attempt to scratch beneath the surface of an everyday scene”

Andrew’s teeming, energy packed oil paintings take the viewer straight to the kernel – the essence - of a living scene, from Croatia to Morocco, but also closer to home. He draws much inspiration from the power and beauty present in Scottish landscapes and the rugged Cornish coastline too. Using sketches captured on location, Andrew’s finished works are much more than simply records of a moment. They reveal life and spirit – that true sense of place only uncovered by finely tuned insight.

Based in Bristol, Andrew trained at Liverpool John Moores University. A founding member of the artist-led creative community Jamaica Street Studios, his work frequently features in the RWA [Royal West of England Academy] Autumn Show.
