Tony Scrivener artist in his studio with paintings and art materials. A mix of still life and semi abstract landscape paintings

Tony Scrivener

Tony was born in London and moved to Dorset in 1970, where he studied at Bournemouth and Poole College of Art. He has painted professionally since 1992 and also gained a first class BA [Hons] through the Open University in 1999.

Tony has regularly appeared at the Royal Academy Summer Show and features in both private and corporate collections across the UK, Europe and the USA.

Primarily a painter of landscapes and still life, drawing is of great importance in his work, and the confident line is a key element in each composition, defining and separating space and subject. Tony is not preoccupied with creating a likeness in the traditional sense, but aims to encapsulate and simplify the essence of the places, forms and objects that he sees.

The process of making each painting is one of constant change, which continues until the inherent tensions within a work are resolved. This sense of exploration can be readily appreciated in the rugged surface textures, bold marks and rich, earthy colours.
