Simon Pooley

“Constantly inspired by the landscapes and restless light of Penwith”.

Born in Macclesfield, Cheshire, Simon trained as an architect and practised for 12 years. In 1992 he moved to Cornwall to paint full-time, and now works from a studio near Lamorna just 8 miles from Lands End.

Constantly inspired by the landscapes and restless light of Penwith, Simon’s paintings balance memory with the immediacy of en plein air sketches, and evocative abstraction with graphic figurative elements. His palette encompasses gently luminosity and rich earthy darkness – deftly capturing the spirit of Cornwall’s far South West, from quieter rural corners to the embattled, sea-sculpted headlands.

Simon has exhibited widely in the UK and abroad and is a member of the Newlyn Society of Artists.
