Strength & Fragility
Works on Paper by Vyvyan Hope-Scott
Other Gallery Artists Include • Bo Hilton • Anna Boss • Carl Melegari • Trevor Lillistone • Stephanie Cunningham
We’re delighted to welcome Bristol artist Vyvyan Hope-Scott, whose evocative works on paper are rooted in 20th Century abstraction, but also inspired by landscape, architecture and engineered structures. Using the dramatic simplicity of black and white, or earthy tones that contain iron powder, Vyvyan creates palpable depth and tension: a balance between strength and fragility which he often finds in the slowly decaying monuments to industry around the docks in his home city. Here corrosion and erosion are transforming the once monolithic into something more vulnerable and intricate, and these slow but irresistible processes shape a unique body of paintings.
