Hannah Woodman

Painting for Hannah is visceral and a balance between considered, spontaneous and purely accidental. Starting from a simple drawn outline, she works in layers, creating a density of marks, agitating a picture’s surface with scrapes, scratches, splatters and gestures.

Hannah was born in Totnes, Devon. She studied at Exeter College of Art and Design and the Courtauld Institute in London.

She then trained to teach at the London Institute of Education. Having taught and lectured in schools, museums and galleries for six years, she decided to devote all her time to painting.

Since becoming a full-time artist, Hannah has had a series of sell out one-woman shows and her work is held in private and public collections both in the UK and beyond. A member of the Newlyn Society of Artists, Hannah divides her time between Cornwall and her studio on the Devon coast.
